“I just want to show that I’m more than just the bartender who dishes out slaps.”
Tiare Akiona returns for her second Power Slap appearance with one of the more unconventional paths into the sport.
A bartender at Whiskey Dix Saloon in Hawaii, Akiona was already delivering slaps before ever stepping onto the Power Slap stage. The bar offers a “hurricane/slap shot,” where customers get splashed with a shot before receiving a slap from behind the bar. What started as part of the job eventually led Akiona to formal training and her Power Slap debut in October 2025.
“Technically ‘training’ started September 2025 because the bar I work at, Whiskey Dix Saloon in Hawaii offers a hurricane/slap shot.”
Now returning for her second appearance, Akiona sees Power Slap as an opportunity to prove she belongs on the stage for more than her bartending background.
“I just want to show that I’m more than just the bartender who dishes out slaps.”
Outside of competition, Akiona stays involved in her local community, from feeding people experiencing homelessness to working in Kalo patches and planting native Hawaiian plants to help rehabilitate local forests.
For Akiona, the Power Slap journey is about embracing a new opportunity, meeting athletes from around the world, and seeing just how far an unexpected path can take her.
“I have no one specific, I’m just grateful for the opportunity.”
